Our solution consists of 3 key elements, at the heart of the system is the CUBIX system that automates and controls all elements of the workflow from the work order system through to the Flexicarts, Encoders and Storage.

Cubix supports the use of Flexicarts for helping automate the process of digitisation for digibeta style formats a number of Flexicarts can be directly controlled by Cubix, using then either a Harmonic Spectrum server or Telestream Pipeline devices for capture. All ingest is frame accurate, and Cubix monitors all channel conditions and stores this metadata alongside the asset. Decisions can then be configured within the workflow based on this metadata to drive any escalations or additional QC tasks.

Big Pic Media are able to provide refurbished Flexicarts, with a brand new custom build firmware on them – allowing the Flexicarts to support the very latest Sony HDCAM-SRW decks. The proposal is to configure them is a 3 VTR configuration per robot – allowing for an average ingest rate of 54-60 hours per day per robot for mid to long form content.

Operators can easily monitor live what the current state of the system is via the Taskflow system – whilst then UIs such as the Bulk Ingest Manager show live what load and remove lists are required.

Cubix is used today to bulk digitise content under very tight SLAs for clients such as Getty Images and BBC Worldwide in both SD and HD formats.

The benefit to deploying a Harmonic Spectrum server is that the storage is internal, and no external servers are required for deployment. They are also proven to be very resilient to variable video quality, given their enterprise nature. However, these units would be purchased second hand (although there is a strong second hand market for them and so plenty of spares available).

The benefit to deploying Cubix with Telestream Pipeline is that they are modular, and so easily added in alignment with new Flexicarts. However – in our experience they have proven to be not the most reliable when digitising SD formats, and require external servers to receive the streams and capture them to disk.

To generate the H264 requirement, Cubix uses its own internal open source transcoding solution – as this requires no external licenses, is fully automated, and is often quicker than the commercial products available on the market.

In addition to the core Cubix asset management, automation and orchestration elements – it is proposed that we also provide some of our distribution portals for use to with clients on a Proof of Concept basis. This is to go against Prime Focus and the equivalents with their distribution platforms, and help leverage further income and transactions on the existing equipment already housed within your facility – e.g. new revenue without the need for capital investment.

These portals allow clients to search and view content online that is stored within Cubix – and react with that content – ranging from simple actions for online screeners through to full fulfilment to platforms and broadcasters alike.

With Cubix’s ability to leverage both resources within the building, as well as private and public cloud solutions – it provides many different options for deployment models – allowing you to leverage everything from on-site LTO storage through to cloud CDNs and transcoders – all within the same single architecture.
